意大利制造是通过RIKO（普通人）的眼睛来讲述与国家的爱恨关系。Riko像他的父亲一样在一家腌制肉类工厂工作，周围的猪比人还多。他与莎拉分享的日常爱情正陷入困境。虽然Riko对自己的工作不满意，但与他在五十岁时被解雇的几个同事不同，他很幸运能够工作。甚至与包括Carnevale在内的朋友一起出去也足以缓解专业和存在的危机。为了使生活更有意义，他决定和他的朋友开车去罗马。他们一起参加了一场抗议活动，期间Riko受到了头部的打击。这次袭击带来了一些变化，包括对妻子作出补偿，并面对工作中的问题。Riko和萨拉决定再婚，虽然萨拉的忏悔突然中断了这个情感化的新开端。她与他最好的朋友Carnevale一起欺骗他，然后Carnevale自杀了。最终，Riko被解雇，失去了他的朋友和工作，使他陷入了一片萧条，导致他考虑自杀。多亏了他的儿子Pietro，他开始重拾力量...
