故事发生在1939年的8月，八名身处世界各地，互相并不认识的人在同一时间收到了欧文夫妇的来信，信中热情的邀请他们前往位于德文海岸附近的士兵岛上做客，在这里，这对夫妻拥有一幢非常豪华的别墅。很快，八个人就各自动身了，可当抵达了小岛后，他们却被告知欧文夫妇并不在家，接待他们的是两名岛上的管家。 就这样，八个人在兴奋又疑惑的情绪中接连进入了别墅内。当晚用餐时，餐厅的一台留声机忽然响了，一个神秘的声音开始控诉起在座的八人，声称他们都曾犯下过谋杀之罪。更糟糕的是，没过多久，第一个牺牲者便出现了。
